GPA Calculator
Calculate your GPA on a 4.0 scale from grades and credit hours.
📐 GPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ Credits
GPA (Grade Point Average) is the standard academic performance metric in US and Canadian universities, and increasingly in Indian engineering and management institutions aligned with international standards. This calculator converts letter grades to grade points, computes semester GPA and cumulative CGPA, and handles both 4.0 and 10-point scales. It also shows what GPA is needed in remaining semesters to reach a target CGPA.
📋 How to Use This Calculator
Select your grading scale (4.0 US, 10-point Indian, or 100-point percentage). Add courses with their credit hours and grades. The calculator computes weighted GPA for the semester and cumulative CGPA across multiple semesters. The "target CGPA" feature tells you what average GPA you need in your remaining semesters to achieve a specific final CGPA.
💡 Key Facts & Information
US 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0. Formula: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) / Σ(Credit Hours). Indian 10-point CGPA (Anna University, VTU, etc.): O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, F = 0. CGPA to percentage approximation (varies by university): Multiply CGPA by 9.5 (VTU formula), or 10 (some universities). Top US graduate school GPA requirements: MIT, Stanford, Caltech typically expect 3.7+ GPA. For Indian MS applications, CGPA 8.5/10 (equivalent to ~3.5/4.0) is competitive for mid-tier US universities.
