Healthy Weight Calculator
Find your healthy weight range based on the normal BMI range.
📐 Range = BMI 18.5–24.9 × (Height in meters)² — the WHO-defined normal BMI band.
A healthy weight range is the weight at which your risk of weight-related health conditions — type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, joint problems — is minimised. It is typically defined as a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9, but BMI has known limitations: it does not account for body composition, ethnicity, age, or frame size. This calculator gives you your healthy weight range, your current weight relative to that range, and the amount to lose or gain to reach it.
📋 How to Use This Calculator
Enter your height in cm and current weight in kg. The calculator shows your BMI, your healthy weight range (the weight corresponding to BMI 18.5–24.9 for your height), how far your current weight is from the middle of the healthy range, and a realistic timeline for reaching it at 0.5 kg/week loss or gain. For Asian populations, the WHO has noted that health risks increase at lower BMI thresholds — the calculator shows both standard and Asian-adjusted ranges.
💡 Key Facts & Information
Standard BMI healthy weight: 18.5–24.9. However, the WHO Expert Consultation on BMI in Asian Populations (2004) found that Asian adults have higher body fat percentage and greater risk of metabolic disease at lower BMI values. Recommended Asian thresholds: overweight at 23.0, obese at 27.5. India adopted these adjusted thresholds. For a 165 cm Indian adult: standard healthy weight 50.4–67.7 kg; Asian-adjusted healthy weight 50.4–62.7 kg (top end reduced). Waist circumference is an additional important measure: metabolic risk increases above 80 cm (women) and 90 cm (men) in Asian populations — lower than international thresholds of 88 cm and 102 cm.
