Ideal Weight Calculator

Find your ideal body weight using multiple scientific formulas.

170 cm
Average (all formulas)65.9 kg
Devine Formula65.9 kg
Robinson Formula65.2 kg
Miller Formula66.0 kg
Hamwi Formula66.7 kg

The ideal weight calculator uses four established scientific formulas โ€” Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi โ€” to estimate your ideal body weight based on your height and gender. Unlike BMI, which only flags potential weight issues, the ideal weight calculator gives you a specific target weight range to aim for, making it useful for fitness planning, dietary counselling, and medication dosage calculations in clinical settings.

๐Ÿ“‹ How to Use This Calculator

Select your gender and unit system (metric in kg/cm or imperial in lb/ft/in). Enter your height using the slider (metric) or number fields (imperial). The calculator displays your ideal weight from all four formulas individually and shows an average as the primary recommendation. Results support both metric and imperial display. Use the average as a realistic, science-backed target rather than focusing on any single formula.

๐Ÿ’ก Key Facts & Information

The four formulas were developed between 1964 and 1983 for clinical use: Devine (1974) was originally created for medication dosing; Robinson (1983) refines Devine with lower baseline and rate; Miller (1983) gives lower estimates; Hamwi (1964) is the oldest and still widely used. All formulas use 60 inches (5 feet) as the baseline, adding a fixed amount per inch above 5 feet. Important caveat: these formulas were developed on Western populations and may not perfectly apply to Indian adults, who tend to have higher body fat at lower weights. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) recommends a BMI of 18โ€“23 as healthy for Indians โ€” slightly lower than the standard 18.5โ€“24.9.
